Where to stay on Alonissos Island, Greece

If you don’t fancy the rich history of Athens, Greece’s capital, the island of Alonissos might be the place to aim your dart when planning your holidays this year. Located on the Sporades archipelago just east of the coastal port city of Volos, Alonissos is a haven whose beauty goes curiously overlooked.

With a full-time population of just over 3,000, Alonissos is the perfect getaway for anyone wishing to bask in the Mediterranean Sea without the fear of bustling crowds tussling for beach space. Trading sand for pebbles, the beaches of Alonissos are iconic, playing host to the island’s mascots, Mediterranean monk seals, as well as the locals and tourists who venture to the coasts year-round.

Even if taking in the summer rays isn’t your prerogative, Alonissos has an abundance of other offerings, from boat trips to diving excursions to unrivalled coastal architecture. No matter your motive, the island of Alonissos has the potential to meet your each and every need.

But, being just a small island, if you wish to head to Alonissos soon, you might want to make accommodation a priority.

The best hotels on Alonissos island

The good news is, if you’re after a hotel on Alonissos, you’re spoiled for choice. Located on the edge of the Old Town, Aletri Swim Up Hotel offers a range of staggering treats. Looking over the coast, the views from Aletri are stunning, and when you look back towards the hotel, they’re not so bad either, with two lagoon pools and 15 minimally designed suites being a retinal delight.

If luxury, pool-side retreats are what you’re after, Paradise Hotel and Marpunta Resort are both well worth a look, too. Also located in the south of the island, Paradise Hotel lives up to its name, with its remarkable views across the sea being largely incomparable to any other location. Still, Marpunta Resort certainly rivals its beauty, with the opportunity to lounge in a vast swimming pool while seeing the sunset being too good of a chance to turn down – albeit offering a more secluded experience.

But, if you’re after something a little more low-key, perhaps the understated charm of Althea Hotel and Angelos Design Suites may be a better fit. With luxurious rooms, endearing wooden furniture, and grand views over the island, Angelos Design Suites in the south is a gem of a hotel. Similarly, if you’re after the same kind of vibe, the stunning simplicity of Althea Hotel will have you whipping out your phone every five minutes to take a photo.

Options in Alonissos for beach bungalows and suites

Perhaps the greatest part about any holiday is the fact that you can tweak and adjust the getaway precisely to your liking. Indeed, hotels aren’t for everyone, and if you’re after something larger and more opulent, the suites, such as the ones available in Infinity 180 Luxury Suites and Spa, will be your best option. Just like each and every hotel in this article, Infinity 180 offers extraordinary views over the coastline and promises luxury in the form of an infinity pool, spa and infrared sauna.

Meanwhile, high quality is promised at Ilya Botanic Suites, located on the east coast of the island. Looking like the kind of thing you’d only see in the movies, Ilya Botanic Suites offers extraordinary accommodation that mostly comes part and parcel with a hot tub that’s sure to elevate any vacation. Mere minutes from the beach, the suites of Ilya are truly outstanding.

But, with too much choice inevitably comes indecision. So, in this instance, why not travel to Alonissos Beach Bungalows and Suites Hotel, where, as the name suggests, not only are suites available, but private bungalows also promise an unforgettable getaway? With choices that range from large family one-floor homes to luxury bungalows, each one including impressive views, the options available are mind-boggling.

Where on Alonissos can I find the best villas?

The only accommodation type we have not yet mentioned is villas, with Alonissos Island also providing a range of superior options. The accommodation of Anemolia Villas may be the most impressive on the whole island, with the two private houses fitted with pools that will ensure that you’re the first to the water and the last ones out, too. Located towards the south of the island, just a stone’s throw from the beach, the hill view of Anemolia Villas offers perhaps the best accommodation on the island.

Elsewhere, for the spice of variety, Poikilma Villas might be the place for you. Just east of Anemolia Villas, Poikilma offers a number of grand homes for your vacation, each one offering magnificent coastal views. Situated on the side of a hill, the villas are truly stunning pieces of architecture that blend into the environment, giving holidaymakers the chance to stay in a location that feels both remote and luxurious at the very same time.

The aptly titled Alonissos Villas also offer a range of locations across the south of the island that are sure to meet any need and requirement you wish, from vast balconies to infinity pools. Indeed, the small island itself boasts versatility at its very core, offering hotels, bungalows, suites and villas to fulfil any vacation desire.
